Pretty sure brussel sprouts are an acquired taste…but with a few little tweaks, you can make sure that you help that process go a bit faster.
I’ve been working on roasting lots of different veggies lately (check out my oven roasted potato fries). It’s such a simple way to include veggies into each meal. They are crispy and perfect…and better yet…my kids will eat them this way!
Roasted Brussel Sprouts
Ingredients
- 1 bag of brussel sprouts (about 12 ounces)
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of Italian Seasoning (a premade mix)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.
- Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
- Cut the brussel sprouts in half.
- Place the olive oil and Italian Seasoning in a medium sized bowl.
- Put the cut brussel sprouts in the bowl of oil and mix until all are coated.
- Dump the brussel sprouts on the cookie sheet and separate making sure none are touching and they are all cut side down.
- Place in oven for 10 minutes. Check to see if the flat side has started to brown (if not, leave for 5 more minutes).
- Remove from oven and flip to back side.
- Place back in oven for 5-10 more minutes (test with fork to see if done).
- Cool and eat!

Do you like brussel sprouts? If not, are you willing to try this recipe?
Fresh sprouts right? I can’t imagine being able to use frozen but thought I’d check.
Yes, fresh…but I’m wondering if frozen would work now…I’ll have to experiment.
I love roasted brussel sprouts and follow your recipe with one twist. After roasting, I toss in a mixture of 1 tbsp olive oil, 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar and 2 tsps honey. Awesome for a little different flavor. Thanks for sharing your journey.
That sounds awesome! I’ll have to try it next time! Thanks!
Hy Sarah,
I am going to try your recepie; thanks for a new idea 🙂
I never liked Brussels sprouts either until I found a suggestion at my local supermarket 20 years ago: cooked Brussels sprouts with Sate-sauce. The Sate-sauce makes the bitter taste go away. You might never heard of it since its an Indonesian thing and mostly eaten in Indonesia and The Netherlands with chicken and rice; its a thick spicy peanut-sauce sold in buckets at the supermarkets here which you have to mix up water and then warm slowly while stirring with a wooden spoon up in small pa and then poor it over the sprouts on your plate. You can also make it yourself. The sauce is also populair to eat with French fries at snackbars.
My huby hates Brussels sprouts but in this way he eats it 🙂
As far as I know you can’t buy it outside of the Netherlands but I saw dry powderversion recently in a plastic can.

The best taste is if you use an Indonesian recepie and not use peanutbutter. But you have to try it out; maybe you could order it online?
Esther
Thanks! I’ll try it!
